Done, Not Perfect

In January, I felt led to start creating content every day.

For a brief moment I thought, How am I going to do that? But that thought passed quickly because it reminded me of something about myself. For years, I had a habit of researching things endlessly before I started.

I would research, plan, outline, organize, and try to make sure everything was perfectly aligned before taking the first step.

What I eventually realized was this: all that researching was just another way of doing nothing.

I had become a professional researcher.

I told myself I needed the perfect plan, the perfect structure, and the perfect timing. But the more I waited for everything to line up, the more I delayed the very thing I said I wanted to do.

So I changed my approach.

Now, when something is in me to do, I act first. I think later. I figure it out as I go.

Because waiting for perfect conditions often becomes the excuse that keeps us from ever starting. The longer we delay in the name of perfection, the less likely we are to do the thing at all.

Progress doesn’t come from perfect planning.

It comes from showing up, starting messy, and allowing the process to teach you along the way.
